The FDA approved orlistat capsules — called “alli” — as an over-the-counter weight loss aid for overweight adults.
That makes alli the first FDA-approved over-the-counter weight loss pill. Orlistat is also sold in higher doses by prescription under the brand name Xenical

These are the guidelines, developed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. They set these rules for this fashion week to prevent unhealthy models from walking the runway.
- Provide healthy meals, and prohibit smoking and alcohol, during shows
- No models under 16 on the runway
- No models under 18 at fittings or photo shoots past midnight
- Raise awareness of the effects of smoking
- Teach people to identify early signs of eating disorders
- Require models with eating disorders to get professional help
- Develop workshops on the causes and effects of eating disorders
Following several anorexia-related model deaths last year, mandatory rules – which specifically defined a healthy body-mass index for models – are now enforced in other countries.
In Italy, it is prohibited to hire a model under 16 and models must submit medical proof that they don’t suffer from anorexia or bulimia.
The CFDA declined to take such drastic measures.
Despite new guidelines to fatten up the waifs, a survey of the backstage spreads at Fashion Week found plenty of food, but few takers.
At the Lycra denim lounge Tuesday, there was a table full of minicupcakes that went almost untouched.
And some of what is consumed isn’t staying down. “We can smell it. They’re doing a lot of vomiting,” janitor Dennis White, 28, told Reuters. He was cleaning up the toilets as models prepared for an early-morning show.
“At our first show, we had catering backstage, but the models didn’t eat,” said a publicist. “So at our last one, we’re not even going to be bothering with catering – we’re just having champagne, water and energy drinks.”
As you can see the CFDA’s new guidlines are worthless!

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on Monday announced an investigation into claims by Coca-Cola and Nestle that their new drink can burn calories and not “voodoo nutrition.”
Blumenthal’s investigation focuses on Enviga, a green-tea drink that contains caffeine, calcium and a green tea extract known as epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. Coke says EGCG speeds up metabolism and increases energy use, especially when combined with caffeine.
An Enviga Web site claims that the drink’s blend of green tea and caffeine burns more calories than it contains and can help drinkers maintain an ideal weight. According to a Nestle study, young people who drank three of the 12-ounce drinks a day burned an average of 106 calories.
Blumenthal demanded copies of all scientific studies, clinical trials, tests and papers that prove the calorie-burning claim by next week.
Unless there are credible scientific studies, claims “may be nothing more than voodoo nutrition,” Blumenthal said. “Promise of wondrous weight loss must be supported by science, not magic.”

A breakthrough dieting product may be hitting the market soon. This product is supposed to be a spray that turns off smell receptors in your nose, preventing you from over eating. All you need is a spritz in your nose about a half hour before your meal and your appetite will be decreased. They say that the sense of smell has an immediate connection to your appetite. The slogan will be “puff yourself before you stuff yourself”. Seems like a cool concept, I’d probably try it out under tempting circumstances.
Like freshly baked cookies, mmmmmmmmmm!
