Recently I was at the grocery store in the organic section when I found new beverages called Nutrisoda. They come in a small can similar to Redbull but are quite different. Each of the seven flavors are packed with different nutrients. They don’t just refresh you, they revitalize you. They’re delicious, refreshingly carbonated nutrient-enhanced sodas with zero sugar, caffeine, sodium or aspartame. Here’s the run down…

FOCUS (Peach + Mango): Helps sharpen your thinking and concentrates the mind For more information click here

FLEX (black cherry + apple): Helps lubricate active joints and facilitates movement and flexibility For more information click here

CALM (wild berry + citron): Helps you stay calm and naturally energized to deal with everyday stress  For more information click here
IMMUNE (tangerine + lime): Helps build up your defenses and keep you healthy For more information click here
ENERGIZE (Mandarin + mint): Helps recharge your batteries and boost energy levels For more information click here
SLENDER (pink grapefruit + guava):  Facilitates healthy weight management For more information click here
RADIANT (Pomegranate + blackberry): May help improve your skin’s natural elasticity and firmness for beautiful, youthful, healthy skin. For more information click here
I’ve only tried the FLEX and RADIANT and of the two I defiantly thought FLEX was tastier.

Tonight’s E! News featured a segment on Hollywood revenge diets so I decided to take some notes. The focus was on four recent heartbreak victims Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Carmen Electra, and Kate Hudson.

Reese Dropped 10 pounds and went from a size 6 to a size 2 after her October breakup from Ryan Phillipe. Her diet consists of a high fiber muffin for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch, and salmon with veggies for dinner. When it comes to fitness Reese runs 3 miles each day and does yoga.

Drew Barrymore lost 20 pounds after her breakup with Fabrizio Moretti. She lost the weight eating cereal for breakfast, a chicken sandwich for lunch, and fish with veggies at dinner time. Drew says she does pig out sometimes but makes up for it by running 5 miles everyday and lifting weights 5 days a week.

Even Carmen Electra lost 10 pounds after her breakup with rocker Dave Navarro. She dropped the weight by avoiding all salt, oil and butter. Carmen also regularly participates in belly dancing, yoga and ballet classes to keep her body in tip top shape.

After Kate Hudson’s separating with husband Chris Robinson she toned up by dropping 10 pounds. Kate’s diet secrets include eating smaller portions and organic foods. She also stays in shape with stripper aerobics and running around after her 3 year old son Ryder.

A new study gathered from tracking 2,000 US kids for the past five years suggests that hours of sleep matter. Children who got more sleep were less likely to be over weight compared to those who got fewer hours sleep.

An extra hour of sleep cut the likelihood of being overweight from 36 percent to 30 percent in children ages 3 to 8, and from 34 to 30 percent in those ages 8 to 13.

The researchers found that children who got less sleep were more likely to be overweight and have higher body mass index measures than those who got more sleep, even when factors such as race, ethnicity and parents’ income and educational level were considered.

To the parents of the world, PUT YOUR KIDS TO BED AT A REASONABLE HOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Burn More Calories While You Walk

Walking is one of my favorite things to do! Try these methods to optimize you’re next walk…

PACE YOURSELF

You’ll burn 170 calories per hour walking at a leisurely pace (2 mph), 238 calories per hour at a moderate pace (3 mph), and 272 calories per hour at a brisk pace (4 mph). All counts are based on a 150-pound person.

If you like listening to music, choose fast-paced songs and step to the rhythm; it’ll help quicken your pace and burn more calories. For safety, wear earphones only when walking in a familiar area.

POSITION YOURSELF

Your head: Look straight ahead, not down at the ground.

Your arms: Relax your arms by your sides and swing them front to back, not out to the sides; your hands shouldn’t come up higher than your breastbone. On hills, bend your arms to 90 degrees for more pumping power.

Your hips and waist: Stand tall and keep your hips positioned directly above your feet. Don’t lean forward or back from the waist, even when going up hills (although it’s OK to sit back slightly when heading downhill, as long as you keep your weight over your feet).

Your legs: Stick with your natural stride length to help avoid shin pain, the most common complaint among walkers. To increase your speed, focus on taking quicker steps, not longer ones.

Your feet: Land on your heel first, then roll through to the ball of your foot.

Your shoes: Choose a walking shoe with a rugged tread and rounded heel. It should bend easily at the ball (not the arch) of your foot.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on Monday announced an investigation into claims by Coca-Cola and Nestle that their new drink can burn calories and not “voodoo nutrition.”

Blumenthal’s investigation focuses on Enviga, a green-tea drink that contains caffeine, calcium and a green tea extract known as epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. Coke says EGCG speeds up metabolism and increases energy use, especially when combined with caffeine.
An Enviga Web site claims that the drink’s blend of green tea and caffeine burns more calories than it contains and can help drinkers maintain an ideal weight. According to a Nestle study, young people who drank three of the 12-ounce drinks a day burned an average of 106 calories.

Blumenthal demanded copies of all scientific studies, clinical trials, tests and papers that prove the calorie-burning claim by next week.

Unless there are credible scientific studies, claims “may be nothing more than voodoo nutrition,” Blumenthal said. “Promise of wondrous weight loss must be supported by science, not magic.”
